Characteristics of body fluid metabolism in children

When it comes to the characteristics of children's body fluid metabolism, we need to divide them by age.

The characteristics of body fluid metabolism in children of different age groups are as follows:

1. Newborn (0~28 days):

In the first few days after birth, a large amount of water loss can cause weight loss of 5% to 15%;

A relative increase in fluid loss and requirements after a few days of birth;

Poor cardiovascular compensation;

The kidneys are not fully developed.

2. Infancy (0~1 years old):

Tolerance is still poor;

The kidneys are less able to regulate water and electrolytes.

3. Early childhood (2~3 years old):

Organ function is gradually approaching adult level.

The poor cardiovascular compensatory ability of neonates is mainly related to the following points:

1. The hand speed ability of the heart group is poorly developed, the ventricular compliance is low, and it is sensitive to effusion.

Once the fluid infusion is too much or too little, causing pressure, it will affect the new function of the newborn.

Neonatal renal hypoplasia is manifested by low glomerular filtration rate and immature renal tubules.

This is because the neonatal glomerular filtration rate is only 15% to 30% of that of adults, and the excretion is slow.

If the input volume is too large and too fast, it is very easy to cause edema and hyponatremia.
